About Mike Obsatz
Dr. Michael Obsatz received an Honorary Degree from Macalester College, St. Paul, MN at commencement on May 12, 2007 in honor of his retirement after 40 years of service to the college. His courses have included Institution of the Family, Human Sexuality, Male Socialization Issues and Violence, and Death and Dying. Dr. Obsatz earned his B.A. in Psychology from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Chicago.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Obsatz facilitates workshops all over the world, leads men's and boys' support groups and has authored hundreds of articles. His three books are "From Stalemate to Soulmate", "Raising Nonviolent Children in a Violent World," and "Healing Our Anger." "Raising Nonviolent Children in a Violent World" received the 1999 Minnesota Book Award and the 1999 Catholic Press Association Award.
Dr. Obsatz's workshops include: Healing Our Anger, Shame and Control Issues, Healthy Masculinity, Grief and Loss, Raising Nonviolent and Empowered Children, Healthy Couple Relationships, Blended Family Issues and Raising Assertive Daughters and Empathetic Sons.
Dr. Obsatz has written two plays and has produced a film about bullying. One play, "Don't Bully Me Anymore," is written for elementary school students, takes 15 minutes to perform, and is available for purchase.
The play, "Shooting at Midland High School," is written for middle and high school students, takes 25 minutes to perform, and is available for purchase.
The film, "That's Enough!" became available in the summer of 2004. It is a 20 minute professional movie -- a fictional account of a school shooting and its relation to bullying. It is suitable for middle school and high school students and is available for purchase.
